When Should I Take My Kids to Get a Rapid Test?
COVID-19 is still very much a problem, but thanks to the newly developed vaccines and our state’s quick rollout rate, it has thankfully become more controlled as of late.
While this progress is encouraging, the CDC is finding that there is a rise in respiratory illnesses as masks are coming off and businesses are opening up again.
Read on as our team at AFC Urgent Care Centennial explains.
What Kind of Respiratory Illness Is On the Rise?
According to the CDC, they are seeing “increased Interseasonal Respiratory Syncytial Virus [RSV] activity in parts of the Southern United States.” Now, we know that Colorado is obviously not a part of the Southern United States, but it’s still important to take note and be aware of the rise of RSV.
RSV causes infections of the lungs and respiratory tract, and it’s most common among children. In fact, it’s so common that most children have been infected with the virus by age 2, and symptoms can turn severe if not dealt with quickly. Respiratory syncytial virus can also infect adults, and its symptoms are mild and typically mimic the common cold. We’ve listed the most common RSV symptoms below.
Common RSV Symptoms
- Congested or runny nose
- Dry cough
- Low-grade fever
- Sore throat
- Sneezing
- Headache
